HOW WE CAN HELP PEOPLE IN NEED
For those in dire need, Taunton Link can provide emergency support, due to both some amazing benefactors, but also our links into local authorities. As an example, Steve (name changed for anonymity) met our CEO a few months ago and they began to chat. It turns out that Steve had been living in his car for 3 months at the age of 68, having split up from his long term partner, and having no personal funds to find alternative living arrangements. Our CEO initially provided him with bedding and a stove to make him more comfortable, and then began the process of helping Steve apply for council housing. In the interim, Taunton Link also provided him with short-term hotel accommodation during particularly cold weather. Today, Steve is now housed in council accommodation, and is a regular volunteer with Link Power, when his health permits. He has also gained a new set of friends and a sense of community amongst the volunteers.
